Art Show

Celebration of the Arts and Talent Show!

On Thursday, March 8th we gathered at the West Cambridge Youth Center and celebrated all of our students' artistic talents! Every student had at least one piece of art from art class - thanks to art teacher Laurie Gaines and all the parents who helped mount and hang them, in particular Carroll Magill! We were also treated to a talent show by our willing 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. There were 17 diverse acts - including singing, magic, musical instruments, comedy, and acting!

Thanks to all the staff members who helped our students shine on stage - Kerri Favreau, Jessica Joseph, Jolene Stewart, Elise Faucher and Lissa Galluccio. Thanks also to Bethany Versoy, CPS Photographer, for taking photos.

Fun with Math! Family Card Game Night!
Come learn how to support your children in math by playing card games - each family will receive a deck of cards!
Wednesday, March 28, 6 - 7:30PM, Parents/Caregivers of students in JK-5 - students are welcome to come!

Workshop will begin with parents/caregivers learning how games can help children learn math (childcare during this part of evening), and then children and caregivers will get a chance to play games together!

Please RSVP to Lissa.

Read Across America Day!
RAADAt Haggerty we love our books and their memorable characters. Thanks to all the staff and families that joined in the spirit of Read Across America on Friday, March 2.

Second Graders
LibrarySecond graders are using the library database PebbleGo and the online encyclopedias Britannica and World Book to research birds. They made masks of birds common to Cambridge with Julie Croston from Cambridge Wildlife Puppetry.

Mystery Skye
SkypeFourth graders have had four successful “Mystery Hangouts” with schools in Michigan, Minnesota, Virginia and South Carolina. The students ask questions in order to guess the state and region of the mystery school. The process is similar to the game “Twenty Questions” with specific geography related questions.

Farm

5th Graders Spent Two Nights in February on the Farm and They Want to Share!
Farm school was awesome! Everybody loved it there, we had the best time, and we are going to share our experiences with you.

The bunkhouse is the center of the farm, literally and metaphorically. It's the place where we sleep, eat and have snack. We clean the bunk room everyday. We have checklists that we complete everyday. Some of us would cook with Aly while others would clean the bunks. Read on >>

F is for Feelings

RACE MATTERS: COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS
Book Suggestion: F is for Feelings
Young children often need help learning and practicing their “feelings words” so they can express themselves well. When children learn from an early age to share their feelings in clear and healthy ways, they are more likely to grow into adults who feel capable of handling life’s challenges. Friendly and positive, this picture book uses an alphabet-book format to share and reinforce emotional language and the ideas that while some feelings are more comfortable than others, all emotions are natural and important. Charming, colorful illustrations accompany the sweet and simple text. A section in the back provides tips and activities for parents and caregivers to reinforce the themes and lessons of the book.
Age Range: 3 - 8 years
Grade Level: Preschool - 3
