StewartAre you concerned about your substance use? Someone else’s use?
There is now an Adolescent Substance Abuse specialist at Teen Health! Dr. David G. Stewart from the Cambridge Health Alliance will see students on Thursdays between 9AM - 1PM. Any student can go to Teen Health during lunch without a pass to meet him.

Community Service Hours Available for The Cultural Survival Bazaar
A Festival of Indigenous Arts and Cultures will be held on Dec. 9-10 from 10AM - 5PM at CRLS. Volunteers will get to meet artists from all over the world and help this incredible event support the artists and their communities! We're happy to sign off on credit for service hours. We ask for a minimum of 4 hours per person, and the longer the better! Food included if you work 5+ hours.

Skills needed:

  • French, Spanish, Russian, and possibly other languages
  • physical strength for lifting and carrying
  • people skills
  • decorating/artistic abilities or enthusiasm (no experience necessary)
  • ability to be professional and represent Cultural Survival to the public

Volunteers needed:
Friday, Dec. 8 | 4 - 8PM
Sat. and Sun, Dec. 9, 10 | 8AM - 5PM
Sunday Evening | Until 8PM

Animation Project

Workshop and Gallery Tours
Due to popular demand, workshops and gallery tours for high school students have been extended for the fantastically whimsical, innovative, cross-disciplinary exhibition by LA-based artist Kiel Johnson, on view at the Lunder Arts Center at the College of Art + Design, Lesley University.

Please join us in our pop-up “makerspace” in the Lower Level Commons at the Lunder Arts Center (1801 Mass Ave, Cambridge) to build “art cars” and be a part of a stop-motion animation project. Take a tour of our galleries and learn more about Kiel Johnson’s dynamic independent and commercial art practice. All workshop materials are provided! Aspen allows you to view your child's grades, attendance, class work, and homework any time it is convenient for you. There is a link to Aspen from the CRLS parents web page. Now that we're entering that giving time of year, please consider volunteering with Friends of CRLS. Students receive community service credit! (Please remember to have your form signed.)

We have lots to jump in on. Meet others and do something great for the success of our students.

  • Labeling letters for our annual appeal - Monday, November 27 -- for parents needed 10AM - 2PM (1-2 hour shifts) 

  • Phonathon calls to our contributors -- students and/or parents -- Phonathon dates and times below. Location TBA. Please email us to sign up.

FOCA

Get Involved with FOCA
There are many opportunities for parent engagement at CRLS and the Friends of Cambridge Athletics (FOCA) supports many aspects of this process for the athletics program. Participation is simple and there are many volunteer opportunities. Areas range from FOCA events to serving as parent liaison to teams. To learn more about our work and to get involved visit our website, send an email, or just come to one of our meetings held the 2nd Tuesday of the month in the Athletics office 6 - 7:30PM.

Breakthrough Cambridge

Now Accepting Applications for Breakthrough Greater Boston Class of 2024
Do you know a current 6th grade student in Cambridge? Breakthrough Greater Boston is now accepting applications for the class of 2024! Breakthrough Greater Boston is a free, year-round, academic enrichment program. We offer an exciting curriculum and small classes taught by trained college students. Students must apply during their 6th grade year and make a six-year commitment. The application is due December 15 and can be found at our website. Stop by our office in CRLS to pick up or drop off your application!

Teach or Tutor with Breakthrough Greater Boston this Semester

Be an Academic Mentor: Breakthrough Greater Boston is looking for students and professionals to serve as Academic Mentors for our middle and high school students. Academic Mentors help our students build study skills, get organized, and improve their academic performance. Additional details and application info can be found on our website.

Teach in our School Year Program: Breakthrough Greater Boston is currently seeking dynamic and talented high school and college students with a passion for urban education to teach during our After School Program. Teaching Fellows will be responsible for delivering instructional content in a structured and supportive classroom setting consisting of 6-10 middle school students. Teaching Fellows receive training, professional development, and ongoing instructional coaching and support from experienced teachers throughout the fellowship. Cambridge School Volunteers is currently seeking tutors, classroom volunteers, college mentors, Reading Buddies, and more to help students in the Cambridge Public Schools. Our volunteers are in every public school, from junior kindergarten through the high school, helping students to succeed in school. Could you be our next great volunteer? We hate to brag, but our volunteers are the cat's meow. Come join us this fall by signing up for a volunteer orientation! (Remember, returning volunteers don't need to come to an orientation, but you will be asked to come in to re-register.) Tutoring Center
Do you need your own 1:1 tutor to help in any subject? Come by the Tutoring Center, Room 2132, to fill out a request form for a tutor. See Mr. Duche or Ms. Williams. Cambridge School Volunteers will work to find a tutor who can help you once or twice a week.

Tutoring sessions happen before school, 7:30 - 8AM, Mon-Fri or after school, 2:45 - 3:45PM, Mon-Fri. starting September 25. Don't wait until you are behind! Request some support now.
