Back to School Night

Back to School Night:
Thursday, October 5 | 6 - 7:30PM
The first month of school is behind us! Please join us this Thursday night at our Back to School Night! The evening is geared toward parents, but we will have childcare for school-aged students. I have gotten back lots of blue sheets to RSVP for childcare, but you can also email Lissa and I will add your children to the list. Please let me know by Wednesday night. The evening will start in the gymnasium with a welcome for our Principal Nancy. After this general introduction, there will be time to visit and hear from classroom teachers in your child's classroom.

We still need room parents in some classrooms! We need at least one room parent in the following rooms: Lacey (103), Golding (107), Healy (106), Favreau (104), Callender (210), Hassett (211), Kuo (212), Karwowski (213), Moloney (306), Stewart (304), and Faucher (305). Please contact Lissa to volunteer!

Danehy Day

Danehy Day
Thanks to the efforts of our entire school community, Haggerty’s concession stand at Danehy Day was a huge success! Thank you to the many families who supported our school by baking brownies, donating water or juice, making sandwiches, working the stand, popping and bagging popcorn or stopping by to say hello and buy our delicious food! It was a real team effort and all contributions, big and small, are deeply appreciated. Read on >>

September’s Secret Song is revealed!
After exploring through listening all week long, the secrets of this song have finally been revealed! Listen at home >>

MarlandThe traditional lyrics are as follows:
“Oranges and lemons,” say the bells of St. Clement’s;
“Give me five farthings,” say the bells of St. Martin’s.
“When will you pay me?” say the bells of Old Bailey.
“When I grow rich,” say the bells of Shoreditch.
“When will that be?” say the bells of Stepney;
“I do not know,” says the great bell of Bow.

Our secret song is an arrangement of the traditional Oranges and Lemons, performed by percussionist Evelyn Glennie and the King’s Singers. All the secrets are here...

Opportunities Outside of School
North Cambridge Opera - Weedpatch!
We have an exciting opportunity for kids and families who like to sing and perform right here in Cambridge! North Cambridge Family Opera is holding auditions for all roles in the world premiere of Weedpatch! This NCFO commission, with music by Stanford University’s Paul Phillips, and lyrics by Grammy-winning storyteller Bill Harley, is based on the historical Weedpatch School, built and run by Oklahoma migrants escaping the Dust Bowl who were shunned by the settled Californians.

NCFO consists of kids age 7 and up, teens and adults, with participation by multiple family members encouraged. Be part of a community theater in all its fun, from performing to costumes, to makeup to stage crew. Auditions are on October 15, 16, 22, and 23. Rehearsals are on Sunday afternoons, and the shows will be March 17, 18, 24, and 25. There are leads, cameos and chorus opportunities. Please go to www.familyopera.org for more information. To schedule an audition, email us or call 617.233.8912.
