Welcome back to another exciting year in the Haggerty Library. Thank you for helping your child to return books to the library on time.

This is the 2017 - 2018 library schedule:
Monday: Faucher, Stewart, Karwowski, Doherty
Tuesday: Golding and Hassett
Wednesday: Kuo and Yeh
Thursday: Callender, Moloney, Lacey
Friday: Favreau, Barker, Healy

This Fall we have a student teacher from Simmons Graduate School of Library Studies, Ms. Jessie Clough.

Volunteer Opportunity
If you have some free time and would like to volunteer in the library, we always need help with shelving. A quick 15 or 20 minutes of help makes an enormous difference.

Thanks!

Welcome back! I’m excited for another year of frequent music classes for JK-2 and a new teacher for grades 3-4, Kilian Mooney. Fifth grade will begin instrumental lessons with the esteemed traveling trio, Richey Tally (strings), John Frazee (brass) and new woodwinds teacher, Tony Babecka. Welcome, Mr. Babecka!

Welcome to Kilian Mooney (photo on page 1), our new 3rd and 4th grade music teacher at Haggerty! Kilian teaches in the back area of the multipurpose room on Mondays. He also teaches at Cambridgeport three days a week and one day at Tobin. Kilian is trained as a singer and a music teacher, coming to us from St. Peters. Welcome, Mr. Mooney!

Haggerty Chorus begins on Tuesday, September 26 at 7:30AM. All interested students in grades 3-5 have received a permission slip. Feel free to come by or email Ms. Irvin-Kent for another copy. Permission slips are due back by Friday, September 22.

We’re looking forward to a great year! Please contact us at any time with any questions or concerns.

Ms. Irvin-Kent and Mr. Mooney

Congratulations to all Summer Learning Participants!
This Summer over 30 Haggerty students participated in our Haggerty Summer Learning Challenge. Students in grades 1-5 recorded their summer learning in a variety of ways: reading logs, notebook entries, summer course certificates, drawings, worksheets, pictures, etc.

On Monday, September 11th, participants selected from a variety of school supply prizes to kick off the school year. We want to thank all of the teachers who donated prizes for the students, the kids were so excited to select their prizes.
We know that most Haggerty students took time this summer to learn and read; next year we hope that you will join the fun and participate in our school wide learning challenge.
Thank you to all of the students and their families who participated in our Learning Challenge this summer. Way to avoid the Summer Slide!

Thank you,

Ms. Novo, Mrs. Pearlmutter and Mrs. Russell

ARRIVAL REMINDERS
In an effort to have your students start the day with success and consistency, we are asking that parents who drop-off their children do so by 7:55AM. The school day begins at 7:55AM, so if you come in after that, please sign-in in the office.

In every classroom, students are met with some form of “Morning Work.” This includes several tasks and routines for your children, all designed to build their independence.  Classroom teachers need to start the day with Morning Meeting by 8AM. This is hard to do when there are family members in the classroom. If you want to bring your child in, please do, but know that we’ll be encouraging you to leave by 7:55AM. It’s helpful if you allow your children to be independent in their routines in the morning. Ask them what the routines and expectations are, and have them show you how they are done. Your praise and support of their independence will reinforce it and support a smooth start to the school day.  Having too many adults in a classroom makes it hard for our students to know who to answer to and it can be confusing for our youngest learners.

DISMISSAL NOTES
Crosswalk Reminder
Please use the crosswalks when you cross the street. Our crossing guard can only stop traffic for you if you are actually in the crosswalk. Please help us keep you safe!

HAGGERTY SCHOOL-WIDE EXPECTED BEHAVIORS
You will see these posters all over our school and our students learn and talk about them in classrooms a lot!
