Kindergarten Art Show Beauty!
On Thursday, June 15th the four JK/K classrooms put their art on display! All Spring they have been studying some of the great artists of the world - including but not limited to Monte, Van Gogh, Picasso, Andy Warhol, Georgia O'Keeffe, Kaninsky, Frida Kahlo, Jackson Pollock, and Marie Cassatt. The show was amazing and their efforts were on full display! Great work to all of our JK/K teachers and students!
Letter From Nancy
Dear Haggerty Families,
Happy Summer! Thank you for another great year. I know you join me in thanking the Haggerty faculty for their ongoing efforts and tireless work. I have enormous gratitude for the staff at the Haggerty School. Without the collective efforts of the entire faculty and the foundation that’s been built here over the years, it would be difficult to create the many experiences your children have had. The staff here have a belief system that your children can work hard and get smarter, even in the face of challenges. It’s a fierce commitment that ALL students can and will get smarter. Collectively, this staff makes it happen; from the custodians to the specialists, the paraprofessionals, teachers and coaches, they show up and they do it because they believe deeply in in their work. I simply can not imagine being anywhere else than with this group of educators; sharing in their commitment and compassion is an incredible honor.

3rd Grade DNA Workshop
On June, 2nd, our 3rd graders had a blast extracting DNA from a banana and learning about nucleotides, chromosomes, genes, and DNA.
Thanks Rebecca Salguero from ECUSA (Spanish Scientists in the USA) for bringing this hands-on science workshop to our school and thanks Ana Rosa Linde (Barbara’s mom) for making this happens!
Field Day Fun!!
On Monday, June 19th the whole school traveled to Glacken Field for our annual Field Day, directed by our PE Teacher Mr. Materazzo. The JK-2nd grade students were led up Cushing Street by a 4th grade marching band. In the morning, the younger students made their way through the fun-filled stations, and the older kids followed suit in the afternoon. We appreciate all the MANY parent volunteers that helped to make this fun day possible!
Tech Currents
By: Mr. Kevin McGonegal, Technology Instructor
What a year!
This year, our students' technology skills grew by leaps and bounds! For the first time ever, second graders were issued Google Drive accounts, which gained them access to the wealth of tools available in the "G-Suite" of apps. It proved to be a wonderful learning tool, as they turned out many digital projects in just the second half of the school year! Students grades K-5 all stretched their computational thinking skills with coding activities on Code.org and in Scratch, and media literacy and Internet safety was of paramount importance in the upper grades this spring. Without a doubt, Haggerty students are leveraging the power of new technology in their learning! Read more >>
5th Graders Moving On from Haggerty!
On Friday, June 16th our fifth graders remembered their time at the Haggerty School in a Moving-On Assembly. Our 28 fifth graders broke up into groups of 4 or 5 and presented a slide show of their favorite memories from each grade - kindergarten through fifth grade! Highlights included apple picking in kindergarten, visiting the Moakley Court House in second grade, scavenger hunting in Chinatown in fourth grade, and visiting the Farm School in fifth grade! the learning alive all summer long. Students who record the activities
they do will be entered in a raffle in September! The more you do, the
more tickets you can put into the raffle! The brochure has more details
and many suggestions for activities.
Summer Reading
We hope you’ll find
these links of reading recommendations helpful. Remember that all these
books are available at your local library for FREE. You can also
download audiobooks from the CPL. Haggerty students (grades 3-5) can
access audio books through Destiny Discover on our library website with
their student id# (password: abc123). Next year’s fourth and fifth
graders should consider the Massachusetts Children’s Book Award list, as
well.
