STEAM Night fun!
On Tuesday, May 16th we held our 2nd annual STEAM Night! STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. The night was an enormous hit! Thanks to parent and PTO chair Carroll Magill for spear-heading the event! We had 17 hands-on activities spread out across the building led by a variety of leaders/organizations. Books Due Back by June 9th
It’s time to look for Haggerty library books that may be hiding in your house. Look for a barcode on the back that says “Library Media Center” or “Haggerty Library.” Thanks for helping us get all our books back by June 9th.
Kindergarten and First Grade
We skyped with author Josh Funk! Josh Funk’s books Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast and The Case of the Stinky Stench have been a big hit with kindergarten and first grade. Check out his website to listen to the songs he wrote to accompany the stories. We made our own fridge full of food and used our first dictionaries to help with spelling!
Josh would love to meet some Haggerty students Saturday, June 10th at 11AM @ the Harvard Coop for a special visit. He promises a special gift of an Inspector Croissant fridge magnet!
 Kindergarteners w/ Gardener Greg
The gardening/library connection: Ms. Golding’s K class has been exploring gardens through books (in the library) and hands-on garden exploration with CitySprouts “Gardener Greg.” The Ks have been recording their observations in a garden notebook.

Kindergarten
Over the past few weeks, students have been practicing the difference between high and low sounds. We have been playing many games, listening to stories, and demonstrating high and low pitches by playing the step bells in class. Ask your child about the game, “Handy Dandy”.
First Grade
First graders have finished studying Peter and the Wolf by composer, Sergei Prokofiev. While listening to the pieces, we matched each featured instrument to the character it sounded like.
First graders have also been practicing their newest note, “La”. They are able to read and show placement of notes Mi, So and La using hand signs while singing songs. We have even sung a song in a round!
Second Grade
Second graders have been practicing their new note, “Re”. They can read and show placement of notes Do, Re, Mi, So, and La using hand signs while singing songs. Ask them about their newest song, Great Big House in New Orleans!

Book Recommendation
The story of America and African Americans is a story of hope and inspiration and unwavering courage. Dinosaur Museum in Kindergarten!
Room 103 transformed back to the age of the dinosaurs - or at least into a Dinosaur Museum. The students were the tour guides for their families. They examined many facets of the age of the dinosaurs and became real experts in the process!
