Spaghetti Dinner - SUCCESS!
On Thursday, January 26th many members of our Haggerty Community came out to support our 5th grader's mission to go on a 2-night field trip to the Farm School in Athol, MA. This is an annual field trip, that they need some additional funding for so that every fifth grader can attend, regardless of their ability to pay. In this effort, our 5th graders made homemade meatballs, sauce, spaghetti, and a delicious salad - as well as brownies for dessert. There was a also a fun raffle - mainly filled with lots of highly coveted staff prizes! Thanks to all of the staff members who donate their time and energy to create these prizes! Thanks also to the many local companies who donated prizes to help support our 5th grader's cause. Special gratitude, to our local Mt. Auburn Star Market for donating all of the meat for our meatballs!
We extend gratitude to all the families who bought raffle tickets! If you happen to have won one of our prizes, you would have already been contacted by Lissa. Thanks also to those who were able to attend the dinner! Our fifth graders are very grateful and excited for their upcoming trip in February!
Library Corner

Grades JK-2: Discussing the American Library Association’s annual book awards. We are currently focusing on Caldecott winners, but will move on to Theodore Seuss Geisel, Coretta Scott King and the Schneider Family Book Award. Have fun looking for medal winners when you visit the public library!
Grade 1: Read The Miniature World of Marvin & James by Elise Broach. Students then wrote and illustrated more adventures for Marvin and James. Look for Masterpiece by Elise Broach for a good family read aloud.
Grade 2 - Reading Verna Aardema’s retelling of folktales from countries in West Africa. These mini-dioramas show scenes from Traveling to Tondo.
Grade 3 - We are creating Google slides to teach others about where books are located in the library. When we aren’t in library, we are busy learning Colonial America contra dances in the gym. A fun way to combine movement and social studies. Thanks FOH!
Grade 4 - Mystery Skypes improve our knowledge of the United States map AND we meet school kids from around the country! We just skyped with Little Rock, Arkansas!
Grade 5 - Our research and learning about the 13 Colonies is coming together in the form of radio interviews, TV shows (with our new green screen!!) and journal entries.
