Mad Hot Ballroom!
Our fifth graders put there ballroom dancing skills to work on Tuesday, May 17th in the CRLS gymnasium. For the past eight weeks our 5th graders have been learning to ballroom dance as a part of their Physical Education curriculum. They joined with four other elementary school's fifth graders to show off all their hard work and effort in learning several complicated dances. Well done Haggerty 5th graders!

LucilleSecond and third graders were introduced to the lives of three little known women from American history: Alice Coachman, Lucille Mulhall, and Ruth Law. Local author, Heather Lang described the process of researching and creating picture book biographies (narrative biography). Students learned that the challenge is to fit the story of an amazing life into only 32 pages - the length of a standard picture book.

Library books due by June 6th. Please help your child look for overdue or lost books at home. Thanks!

Folk New England presents Alastair Moock!
Local folk singer Alastair Moock presented a lesson on the power of music in the civil rights movement to both second grade classes. Mr. Moock traced the history of protest song “We Shall Overcome” throughout history. Our second graders demonstrated great knowledge in this area already, recognizing and making connections to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Ms. Rosa Parks. Students enjoyed a visual presentation, live music and singing along. Thanks, Mr. Moock!

Folk New England funded the bulk of the presentation and FOH provided supplemental funding.

Haggerty’s Spring Concert is fast approaching! Please join us at 8:15AM on Friday, June 3 to hear all students JK-4, as well as Haggerty Chorus (grades 3-5). Parent Coffee from 7:45 to 8:15AM in the cafeteria!

It's been a busy spring in the lab! Here's a peek of what we've been working on...

K-1:
Most recently, our students have been creating digital art in Tux Paint (a free program from
http://tuxpaint.org) and making music using the elegant and inspiring Chrome Music Lab. Students have also been writing programs for our KIBO robots, which are often seen scurrying around our lab floor!
