Fresh Pond

Reviewing and Revisiting Fresh Pond’s Seasonal Phenomena
Monday, December 14 | 6:30 - 8PM
Water Purification Facility, 250 Fresh Pond Parkway

Join us for an indoor review of Fresh Pond’s Natural and Cultural Happenings over 2015. Help make a calendar for the Ranger Station of 2016 of dates we’ll want  to remember to look or listen for ice moaning, owls calling to find a mate, firemen honing their ice diving skills, ice tinkling against the shore, trees budding, soil warming, witch hazel blooming, coyotes mating, migrating birds returning, geese nesting and raising young, grasses greening, school groups visiting, Fresh Pond Day, families picnicking, and more. This is a program for people 14 and up who will enjoy a little bit of quiet in a busy month. We’ll provide a template and art supplies. Photograph our creation to make a calendar for yourself. Contact Martine to register.

Orienteering

Orienteering Events
Cambridge Sports Union (CSU) and Navigation Games are hosting orienteering events in Cambridge parks for the next four Sundays. Orienteering involves using a map and compass to find specific locations marked on the map in a specific order. At each location, there is an electronic device that gives you a time, and you get a printout of your times at the end. It's great fun and  a great outdoor family event -- kind of like a big treasure hunt. Participants should just show up between 10 and 11:30AM and look for the blue awning. If you need instructions, someone will be happy to help. Suggested donation $1 to $5.

12/6 - Danehy Park (New St. parking lot)
12/13 - Dana Park
12/20 - Magazine Beach
