What is "Friends of Haggerty School"?

Friends of Haggerty School, Inc. is the name of a non-profit corporation formed in November 2005 with the mission of raising funds to benefit the Haggerty School. It acts as an "umbrella" for different fundraising groups within the school. In its inaugural fundraising appeal last December, Friends raised over $7,500 in donations from families and friends.

How has the money been used?

This spring, Friends has funded educational "enrichment" activities for Haggerty students such as field trips or in-school speakers/performers. Approximately $4,000 has been spent to date on these activies. Click on the [link] to see pictures from some of these events.

Tax status of donations to Friends

We are in the process of applying to the IRS for tax-exempt status for Friends as a 501(c)(3) corporation. If we receive this approval, donations to Friends will be deductible by the donors for federal income tax purposes from the date of formation of the corporation.

How can I get involved in Friends?

Speak to Mr. Petner or any one of the Friends officers or directors and we will quickly enlist you. We are hoping the Friends group will become an active source of support and funding for the school and will not be dependent on the efforts of the initial organizers.

Friends by-laws provide for the appointment or reappointment of directors and officers each year at our June meeting. This is to allow planning to take place for the succeeding school year.
