What is “Friends of Haggerty?”
Friends of Haggerty School, Inc. is the name of a private non-profit corporation
formed by Haggerty parents in November 2005. It is run by a volunteer board
made up of parents and teachers. Parent representatives serve as liaisons
to the PTO, Arts Council and School Council. Our mission is to raise funds
to support initiatives that have been identified by the Haggerty community
as valuable to the school.
Since its inception, FOH has come to function as an "umbrella" for
the different fundraising groups within the school, including PTO and Arts
Council. All money raised by any of the parent-run groups is held by FOH in
one account in order to streamline the record keeping and benefit from FOH’s
tax-exempt status.
What does the “Friends of Haggerty” fund?
“Friends of Haggerty” funds are used principally for enrichment
and community building programs and activities that would not otherwise be
funded by the annual school budget. This includes classroom field trips and
enrichment, school visits from authors and artists, additional books for the
Library, and after school clubs. Look for the “Friends of Haggerty”
logo in the “Haggerty Holler” to learn about all the exciting
enrichment activities supported with your generous donations. Funds are not
used to pay for school operating costs, routine supplies, utilities, building
and equipment maintenance or staff salaries.
How do I make a contribution to the “Friends of Haggerty?”
When considering a donation to “Friends of Haggerty,” no gift
is too small. We receive gifts that range from $5 to $1000. Teachers appreciate
the funds made available to them to enrich their classroom activities each
year. A gift to “Friends of Haggerty” makes a perfect acknowledgement
of your child’s teachers and their work and dedication to our children
and the school. When making a donation, please make your check payable to
the Friends of Haggerty. Mail or hand deliver your check to the Friends of
Haggerty c/o Haggerty School, 110 Cushing Street, Cambridge, MA 02138
Is my donation
tax-deductible? Is “Friends of Haggerty” eligible for matching
gifts?
FOH is a 501(c)(3) corporation. Contributions to “Friends of Haggerty”
are deductible for federal income tax purposes to the extent permitted by
law. FOH is eligible for matching gifts. Be sure to check with your employer
to find out if they match employees’ gifts.
How can I get involved in the “Friends of Haggerty? “
If you are interested in being a volunteer on the board, Friends of Haggerty
by-laws provide for the appointment of, or re-appointment of directors and
officers each year at our June meeting. Please feel free to speak to our principal,
Kate Conway, or any one of the officers or directors (listed below) about
these opportunities.
All parents are members of the
PTO and Arts Council. Another way to get involved with our school is volunteering
for these two parent–run groups. They are the real work engines of the
school. The PTO and Arts Council organize and run activities that enrich our
children’s’ school experience and build a sense of community at
Haggerty, as well as managing fundraising activities to help support the goals
of the “Friends of Haggerty.”
