FREE Summer Program for English Language Learners in Cambridge Public Schools

Entering Grades 1 - 5
July 3 - August 4, 2017 | 8:30AM - 2PM
The Cambridge ELL Summer Enrichment for English Language Arts at the Kennedy-Longfellow School, Vassal Lane Upper School, and Tobin Montessori Schools is a FREE Five week summer program for English Language Learners (ELL) students entering grades 1-5 in September 2017 .

Students will receive English Arts Instruction focusing on the acquisition of communicative skills: Speaking, Listening, Comprehension using math games, vocabulary, and drama. Transportation and a light lunch will be provided.

Entering Grades 6 - 8
July 5 - August 4, 2017 | 8:30AM - 2:30PM

The Cambridge ELL Summer Enrichment for English Language Arts at Vassal Lane (197 Vassal Lane) is a free five week summer program for English Language Learners (ELL) students from Cambridge Public Schools entering grades 6 - 8 in September 2017. Students will enhance their skills in English, math, science, and social skills. In addition, the ELL program offers a combination of sport activities including Martial Arts. Transportation and a light lunch will be provided.

Entering Grades 9 - 12

The Cambridge Summer Discovery Academy for English as a Second Language at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School is a full day five-week summer program for English Language Learners (ELLs) entering grades 9 - 12 who will be taking the ACESS and the MCAS within the next year or two.

The Summer Discovery Academy activities will help ELLs improve their English and Math skills and MCAS scores. Classes will meet 5 times a week, but on one day a week, students will go on mandatory field trips to local colleges and historical places in the Cambridge and Boston areas. Students will be involved in cooperative learning and hands-on activities.

Enrichment activities include cultural and recreational trips to places such as: Bunker Hill Monument, Longfellow House, Peabody Museum and JFK Library. As for the colleges, students might visit the campuses of Bunker Hill Community College, and UMASS- Boston.

Light snacks and field trips are provided.
