CRLS Learning Expectations
The National Science Education Standards (1995), the Massachusetts Science, Technology and Engineering Framework (2001), and the Federal No Child Left Behind Act (2000) have specified learning outcomes for all students in science, as well as mandated state level standardized assessments in science. The CRLS Science Department has developed curricula in physics, chemistry and biology that are based on the learning standards in these documents
The CRLS science teachers have worked collaboratively to examine the newest science curriculum materials to meet these guidelines. Physics First! is the ninth grade science course required for all incoming CRLS students. Chemistry is the tenth grade science course for all 10th grade students. Biology: A Human Approach is the third required science course in the sequence of science courses at CRLS. The high school science teachers have selected materials, texts, assessments, non-fiction reading, field trips and activities to meet the learning needs of all CRLS students to enable them to meet the science learning expectations.
