Habits of Mind: Science in the Cambridge Public Schools

The National Science Education Standards (1995), the Massachusetts Science, Technology and Engineering Framework (2001), and the Federal No Child Left Behind Act (2000) have specified learning outcomes for all students in science, as well as mandated state level standardized assessments in science. The Science Department has developed curricula in physical science, chemistry and biology that are based on the learning standards in these documents.

The science teachers have worked collaboratively to examine the newest science curriculum materials to meet these guidelines. The teachers have selected materials, texts, assessments, non-fiction reading, field trips and activities to meet the learning needs of all Cambridge students to enable them to meet the science learning expectations.
