Health Education Learning Expectations
Grades 9-12
Cambridge Rindge and Latin School

The Health Education curriculum seeks to help young people achieve their fullest potential by accepting responsibility for personal health decisions and practices, by adopting healthy behaviors, by working with others to improve the health of their school and community, and by becoming discriminating consumers of health information, services and products.   The curriculum teaches fundamental health concepts, promotes habits and conduct that enhance health, wellness and learning, and guides efforts to build healthy families, relationships, schools and communities.

Our Vision
Healthy Students Succeeding Academically

Our Mission
To promote safe schools and healthy students

Our Goal
The Health Education program promotes the physical, social, and emotional health and safety of every student now and throughout their lives, through comprehensive, integrated programs and initiatives. These programs and initiatives support academic achievement and a safe and nurturing educational environment. This is accomplished by focusing in two areas:  comprehensive health education curriculum and school and community wide prevention strategies and activities. Both approaches help students to build on their strengths; to be healthy physically, socially and emotionally; and help to eliminate barriers to learning.

Physical Education Learning Expectations
Grades 9-12
Cambridge Rindge and Latin School

Physical Education for young adults between the ages of 14 and 16 prepares them for their adolescent years.  Rapid physical growth couples with separating from adult influences mark this age.  Opinions about fitness, health, and overall physical skills have generally developed by this time, but much effort must be put into encouraging the students to work to their capacity.  Daily endurance activities, flexibility development, strength development and activities that encourage total participation must be developed.  Developing self-esteem and addressing peer pressure are built into the physical education program.  During their freshman year, students will experience a wide range of physical education activities.  This will enable them to be prepared to choose electives during their grade 10-12 years that they may want to continue for a lifetime.  The National Standards (NS) are more comprehensive than the state standards and are listed along with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Standards (MS).

Physical Education for young adults between the ages of 15 and 18 prepares them for their adult years.  Rapid physical growth couples with separating from adult influences also mark this age. During these years students will experience a wide range of physical education choices.  This will enable them to be prepared to continue a healthy, physically active lifestyle.  The National Standards (NS) are more comprehensive than the state standards and are listed along with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Standards (MS).
