September 12, 2006, Meeting
Next meeting: October 10, 2006 at 6 pm, 2nd
floor,
Attended:
Valerie Alleyne, Lynette Barnes,
Paula
McCarthy, FOCA President, called the monthly meeting to order at 6:10 pm.
1)
Members introductions. CRLS Principal Chris Saheed expressed
his gratitude for FOCA’s support of the school teams,
the school and the families.
2)
Treasurer’s Report—Barbara
Brammer
Barbara reported that she
has met with the auditor and required tax reports would be completed. We are
complying with all state and federal requirements.
A summary sheet showing Team Balances was presented.
Crew has a lot of activities going on as shown from
their $10,746.41 balance.
Football has a negative balance -$297.67. Cheerleading has a negative balance of -$937.50.
Laurie Pierce reminded us that FOCA policy does not
allow teams to spend money they do not have.
If coaches spend their own money and ask for reimbursement, we should
not do so until they have money in the bank. Paula McCarthy and Lynette Barnes
will talk to Coach G of football. No one
volunteered to talk to the Cheerleaders.
Elaine O'Reilly noted that the Girls Soccer balance
may be $300 less than what she remembered from the June balance. Barbara
explained that there might have been outstanding invoices that she hadn’t paid.
Barbara asked for help in putting together packets for
all coaches that would include what FOCA is and does, what fundraisers they can
participate in, ways to get in touch with FOCA and scholarship and grant
forms. Mary Sutula
offered to help. Maria DiClemente stated that
she is already doing this.
Treasurer’s report was adopted.
3)
Minutes from the
June meeting were approved.
4) Athletics Parents Meeting
Paula
asked for a parent to represent FOCA at the Athletics Parents Meeting on
Thursday September 14th and to buy refreshments for the
meeting. Elaine O’Reilly
volunteered.
New
Parents Recruitment
This
year’s goal is to recruit at least two parents from each sport to be on
FOCA. We hope this will help the
communication to and from coaches. Paula
mentioned that some new parents have expressed interest in joining. She will compile a list of these parents.
Fall
Walkathon September 24
Paula
urged everyone to come out and help with the Walkathon. All sports teams should
be participating. Maria will email all
coaches to remind them. T-Shirts will be
given to only athletes who show up with their money. Paula will look into getting T-Shirts to say
Friends of Cambridge Athletics.
Good
Search Fundraising
Paula
reminded all to use Good Search as a search engine instead of Google. Every time it is used 0.1 will go to
FOCA. Make sure to fill in the box to
say “I’m supporting” Friends of Cambridge Athletics. It was also agreed that we should send it out
to people we know. Maria will check with
the IT Department to see if we can put it on the website and include it in the
Did You Know newsletter. She will also announce it at the Athletics Parents
meeting and include it on event flyers.
Apparel
Sales
Volunteers
are needed to organize all athletics apparel in the storage room and the Media
Room so we can figure out what we have and organize a schedule of sales. It was noted that there is usually a demand
for
FOCA
Development Fund
Susan
Ruff will email out the Development Fund Fall timeline with the application
forms. She urged everyone to please help
the coaches get their applications in as the first round of applications is due
October 20th. It was also
suggested that FOCA should consider changing the due dates of these
applications particularly for Fall sports.
The
meeting was adjourned at 7:10 pm.
