FREE Summer Program for English Language Learners Entering Grades 5-8 in the Cambridge Public Schools
The Cambridge Summer Discovery Academy for English Language Arts at the AMIGOS SCHOOL is a FREE four-week summer program for English Language Learners (ELLs) entering grades 5-8.
Students receive 25 contact hours/week of English Language Arts focusing on the acquisition of communicative skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading Comprehension and Critical Writing skills such as accessing prior knowledge, drafting, revising, editing, publishing and evaluation.
Breakfast, lunch and transportation will be provided.

FREE Summer Program for English Language Learners Entering Grades 9-12 in the Cambridge Public Schools (FOR COURSE CREDIT)
The Cambridge Summer Discovery Academy for English as a Second Language at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School is a full day six-week summer program for 60 English Language Learners (ELLs) entering grades 9-12 who will be taking the MEPA and the MCAS within the next two years.
The Summer Discovery Academy activities will result in the increase success rate of participant English Language Learners in English in their MCAS scores by teaching 60 hours of English Language Arts Academic. Instruction will be delivered through a four-day a week model and the fifth day will be used for visits to college campuses and local institutions that will provide students with career and college orientation. A day of academic instruction will include cooperative learning activities, academic instruction, and practical applications. Activities will assure continuous development of language skills as they relate to required curriculum; and that students are engaged in interactive collaborative inquiry based learning that stimulates engagement, curiosity and induces students to construct understanding of the subject at hand.
Enrichment activities include cultural and recreational excursions to college campuses and research institutions such as Bunker Hill Community College, Bay State and Northeastern University.
