The Office of Safety and Security is dedicated to ensuring a safe, secure, disruptive-free learning environment for all who attend Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. The primary role of a Safety Specialist is to support students with any safety-related issues, concerns, or problems, from providing directions to performing mediations.

We are a department of twelve people, with representatives speaking Haitian Creole, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian. We are available for support from 7:00AM-10:00PM, student based services from 7:00AM-4:00PM. Call us at (617) 349-6772. Please introduce yourself to the safety staff and don’t hesitate to ask for help.

Parents, students and members of the community are encouraged to call and report any situations or disputes that may funnel back in to any of the Cambridge Schools.

JUVENILE COURT PROJECT

This Project has established a direct link to the Probation Department of the Court to advocate for students in court-related situations. Students who have a court-related problem may get help from the CRLS court liaison who can provide a variety of support services. Call the Security Office (617-349-6772) for more information.

MEDIATION

Mediation is a process that brings disputing parties together to resolve their conflicts and to produce acceptable solutions for everyone involved. The focus of mediation is to explore the potential for change in the behaviors and attitudes that led to the conflict. The goal of mediation is to create a jointly developed written or verbal agreement that each person involved feels is fair, balanced and an accurate reflection of the issues addressed during the mediation. Trained safety staff and faculty facilitate mediations. Students interested in becoming CRLS Mediators should stop in for information at the Office of Safety and Security.
