Shaping a Community Where Young Children Thrive

High quality early childhood programs are among the most effective supports available for reducing achievement gaps and bridging the gap between the opportunities available to children in low-income families and their more affluent peers. (Early Childhood Task Force Report, p. 6)

The Vision of the Birth to 3rd Grade Partnership is an easily accessed, aligned and coherent system of affordable high quality education and care that begins with prenatal care and extends through third grade.

To make this vision a reality, the Cambridge Public Schools and the Department of Human Service Programs oversee a Steering Committee and three working Subcommittees who are focused on the following goals:

  • Goal 1: Increase access to and affordability of early education and care services
  • Goal 2: Continuously improve program quality for birth through third grade programs and services
  • Goal 3: Build partnerships to promote strong family engagement and support
  • Goal 4: Coordinate with healthcare providers to ensure access to quality healthcare services

The Cambridge Commitment to Families
Children and teens thrive when policy makers, schools, and city and community organizations partner with families to actively support children’s learning and development. It is our shared responsibility to engage each other in meaningful and culturally respectful ways. This effort is continuous across a child’s life from birth to adulthood and carried out everywhere they learn and grow.
