Dear CPS Families:

I hope that you are enjoying a wonderful start to the summer vacation. As we have come to the end of the 2016-17 school year - my first as your Superintendent of Schools, I want to thank you for your continued partnership and support for our schools.

During the last month, there have been many opportunities to celebrate our students and witness their learning over the last year. I had the honor of speaking at all of the High School and middle school graduations, and to attend many year-end celebrations, showcases, and culminating year-end presentations. I was particularly impressed by the eighth grade Science and Engineering Showcase at Harvard University and the presentation of “cold case” findings by our high school Kimbrough Scholars.

As I think back on this year’s highlights, I think of the incredible artistry and talent of our visual and performing arts students and the athleticism of our student athletes--including our incredible two-time State Champion boys’ basketball team. There have been so many prizes, competitions, awards, and scholarships announced this month--too many to list comprehensively here. As students put their backpacks away for the summer, I hope they feel a sense of pride in their hard work and accomplishments this school year. I hope that you feel proud, too. You are a valued partner in our work to provide an outstanding education to Cambridge students, and we look forward to working with you again next September.

We encourage you to keep students engaged in learning throughout the summer months, while taking time for rest and rejuvenation. We look forward to seeing you next year!

Sincerely,

Kenneth Salim, Ed.D.
Superintendent
