Program Description
CSV provides a way for you or your company to provide support to a Cambridge public school student through volunteering. One on one relationships with a caring, competent adult can elevate a student's academic performance and his or her career aspirations. CSV recruits, trains, places and supports volunteers in the Cambridge Public School system, grades K through 12. Since 1966, CSV has been the agency designated by the CPS to provide volunteers system-wide in all grades, and in all subjects. At the elementary level, volunteers work as classroom and library aides, Intergenerational Math and Literacy tutors with 1st and 2nd graders, and as after-school homework helpers in elementary school Learning Centers. At the Upper Schools (grades 6-8), volunteers provide tutoring support in before and after school Learning Centers. At CRLS, CSV places volunteers in the Tutoring Center before, during and after-school; the Drop-In Math center; and in such special programs as College Planning and Essay Writing and Science Olympiad. CSV also runs Reading Buddies programs and NetPals e-mentoring programs with ten corporate partners. These programs are ways for teams of volunteers from a company to support students with literacy and science.
