Advisory on Crash in Porter Square

Advisory on Crash in Porter Square
Posted on 10/05/2016
Update (1:15PM): Due to an ongoing crash investigation in Porter Square, Massachusetts Avenue remains closed and traffic is being diverted around the site. We expect there may be bus delays and encourage families to choose an alternate route if traveling to pick up students at school.

This morning, a small number of CPS students witnessed a fatal crash between a truck and bicyclist in Porter Square. No students were involved in the crash except as witnesses. Grief counselors are being put in place at the schools students were traveling to when the crash occurred.

Principals have been notified of the crash, which has caused the closure of Massachusetts Avenue, and we want families to also be aware that this occurred. Staff are being asked not to bring attention to the crash if students are currently unaware.

Families are being contacted by schools where students report seeing the incident. If your child witnessed or becomes troubled by this incident, please contact the school if you would like assistance accessing help for your student. Our thoughts are with the victim of the crash and his family.
