Finding Safe Routes to School

Finding Safe Routes to School
Posted on 08/03/2016

Cambridge is a bustling city. For students and families who make the healthy and eco-friendly choice of walking or biking to school, finding the best route to school can be tough!

The Safe Routes to School program can help. Coordinator Justin Schreiber worked with CPS to review traffic signals, stop signs, crosswalks and posted crossing guards in order to find the quickest and safest routes to each school. Printed walking maps are now available online and will be distributed to K-8 students in August/September.

The program hopes to have interactive maps available in the future -- but the first priority was to develop a format that's accessible to all families regardless of their technology access. The maps also include public transit directions for families who are new to Cambridge and need tips on getting to their child's school.

The program welcomes feedback! If you've got a shortcut or alternative you'd like to recommend, please email FamilyEngagement@cpsd.us or jschreiber@cambridgema.gov
