  • The administration manual

This manual includes all of the information you will need to administer the BELA, including how to set up for the administration, how to use the instrument, and how to score the instrument. There is also information about how to compare the results of the BELA across the child's two languages and how to maintain a dual language record.

  • The BELA instrument in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole,      Arabic, Bangla, or Chinese

This is the assessment instrument. Choose which languages you will need and download the BELA. If you are assessing children whose home language is not one of those available, feel free to have the English instrument translated for use in that language. If you would like to share translations, please email Dr. Cornelia Heise-Baigorria at heise-baigorria@post.harvard.edu.

  • Illustration booklet

This booklet needs to be downloaded for use with the BELA instrument.

  • BELA score sheet and BELA dual language record

These score sheet and the dual language record need to be downloaded for use with the BELA instrument.

  • Home Language and Literacy Interview in English, Spanish, Portuguese,      Haitian Creole, Arabic, Bangla, or Chinese

The interview elicits basic demographic and language use information from the families of the children you are assessing. This information can be very helpful in interpreting the results of the BELA. Choose which languages you will need and download the interview. If you are interviewing families whose home language is not one of those available, feel free to have the English interview translated for use in those languages. If you would like to share translations, please email Dr. Cornelia Heise-Baigorria at heise-baigorria@post.harvard.edu.
