The Graphic Communications program is a project based and hands-on way for students to learn the modern print and production industry. Students learn basic skills in the field of Graphic Communications including pre-press, press, and bindery. Utilizing state-of-the-art computers, equipment, and software, students in pre-press learn basic design and layout skills by using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and QuarkXpress. In press, students learn entry-level skills needed to operate an offset press. Students acquire entry-level skills in bindery including cutting, folding, and finishing. Upon completion of this course students will be qualified for job placement in the industry or be ready for more advanced applications through higher education.
The courses are aligned with the Massachusetts Department of Education Career/Vocational Technical Education Frameworks for Graphic Communications. The courses include an embedded physical education and health component that meets the CPSD PE requirement. Students enrolled in these courses will not be required to take a separate Physical Education course. |
