Find time every few weeks to talk to your child about what he/she is learning at school and what his/her interests are, both in and out of school. Encourage your child to learn more about areas of interest through after-school activities, school clubs, or courses.

Get to know your child's guidance counselor and small learning community deans; attend school-sponsored activities.

Talk to your child about your career path and about how you have navigated your career thus far.
