Employment Permits
If you are between the ages of 14 and 17 and you want to become employed, you must obtain an Employment Permit; also know as “Working Papers.”
Child Labor Laws and the regulations that govern workplace safety stipulate that the local public school Superintendent be in charge of issuing Employment Permits. For individuals who reside in Cambridge, the Superintendent has designated the Executive Director of the Rindge School of Technical Arts to be responsible for issuing Employment Permits.
How do I get an Employment Permit?
- First, obtain an offer of employment from an employer.
- Next, obtain an Employment Permit Application for 14 through 17 Year-Olds.
- You can pick one up at the RSTA Office, room R123 on the first floor of the Rindge Building at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, 459 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02138 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The RSTA phone is (617) 349-7782.
- You may also go online and download an Application from www.mass.gov/dos/youth
- Complete the Application and obtain the necessary signatures, as per the directions.
- Bring the completed Application with proof of your age to the RSTA Office between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. OR between 2:30 and 4:00 p.m. Proof of age can include a birth certificate, passport, or other official government-issued document where your name and date of birth are displayed.
