Classroom Connectors and Bag-of-Books

By Jennie Kwo, Parent

Classroom Connectors/Bag-of-Books Coordinators. Every year members of the SIC and the SIC Community Builders Subcommittee organize the Classroom Connectors (Room Parent) and Bag of Books Coordinator for grades K through 5.

A Classroom connector is a parent volunteer who helps coordinate grade level events and classroom activities with the teachers, as needed. The main goal is to help build a community within the grade level. Traditional activities include organizing one or two grade level activities per year (such as a Saturday playground morning or end of the year pizza party), coordinating class events, and distributing the Teacher’s Wish List during the holiday season.

Bag-of-Books coordinators are volunteer parents that are in the classrooms every week, collecting, sorting, and distributing books to interested students for in-home use.Classroom connectors are mainly used in the primary grades. In the Middle School, although there are no formal Connectors for each classroom, there are several parents/guardian who are always willing to help out. If you are interested in helping out in your child's classroom, please contact Denise Sullivan, Family Liaison, (617-349-6679) or Jennie Kwo (617-661-8487).
