Multi-grade classrooms offer a wider learning experience as children share with each other and building community across grade levels. Teachers and children find the continuity of a two-year relationship valuable.
-
Grade-wide curricula gives parents the security of knowing that, whoever the teacher, each child in a grade will be provided the same, high-quality curriculum. Its continuing development gives teachers a forum for sharing resources and ideas and for growing professionally.

The Integrated Curriculum builds multiple skills and encourages critical thinking. Social Studies is the major focus of curriculum development at King Open, and children improve their reading, writing, mathematical, artistic and other skills as they explore historic and current events. Major curriculum subjects include the Family Study Curriculum project; American History & current events; the Charles River project; Medieval and Renaissance studies; African studies; Chinese, Middle Eastern and Russian studies; and Facing History & Ourselves, concerning the Holocaust.

An inquiry-based approach to Science asks children to go beyond finding the "right" answer by requiring them to describe, record, and compare their observations and then to formulate further questions. The Science Club for Girls, a free afterschool program, is open to King Open School girls.
