Enrichment Opportunities at the Fletcher Maynard

 

Kodaly Music Program (In School; Grades K-2)

  • The mission of the Organization of American Kodaly Educators is to enrich the quality of life of the people of the people of the USA through music education by promoting the philosophy of Zoltán Kodály. The Kodály concept is a philosophy of education and a concept of teaching, and is a comprehensive program to train basic musical skills and teach the reading and writing of music.  Kodály is an integration of many of the best ideas, techniques, and approaches to music education; and is an experience-based approach to teaching.

     

 

The Suzuki Method (Strings; In School Grade K)

  • The Suzuki method, a unique humanistic approach to teaching music, believes in involving parents and starting with the kids when they are young.  The method focuses on listening, repetition, and group work to stimulate learning and understanding of music.  The program will teach violin to our Kindergarten students this year.

     

 

FMA Community School After School Enrichment Program

  • This year, the Community School program of the Department of Human Services will be operating the school's after school program, from 3:45-5:30 MTThF, and form 2-5:30 on Wednesdays. Tutoring Plus Cambridge (After School)

  • Tutoring Plus aims to support and encourage the academic, personal, and social growth of children and youth in Cambridge, Massachusetts with the help of volunteers and community partners. Tutoring Plus provides free services to families, a structured environment for volunteers, and a highly personal learning environment that produces positive and rewarding results for all involved.

     

 

  • Tutoring Plus serves between 130 and 150 children in grades 4 through 12 each academic year through after-school tutoring and enrichment programs. Students and staff have enrichment time before tutors meet with their students from 6 to 7 pm in six locations across Cambridge.
