Mediation Program
Mediation Is…
- A way for people to solve their problems by talking.
- Voluntary — mediation is not a punishment, anyone has the right to refuse mediation at any time before or during the process
- Confidential — all mediators take an oath of confidentiality
- Non-judgmental — mediators don’t take sides
- Self-directed — mediators don’t tell people what do to, the parties must come up with the solution on their own
- Future Oriented — while we have to go over the history of the relationship, our goal is to focus on what is going to happen tomorrow, the next day, next semester, outside of school, etc.
Mediation Works!!
CRLS Mediation Program statistics since 2007…
- We have had over 143 mediations

- ... and only 16 situations involved a physical fight
If your student is a mediator…
- He/she might be taken out of class by Chandra Banks
- If the student is unable to leave class, please say so quickly so another mediator can be used
- You have the ability to say that a mediator cannot be taken out of your class — just call or
email Chandra Banks 617-217-8106 or cbanks@cpsd.us
All Mediators have been through at least 20 hours of training!
