Dear Junior Kindergarten Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday and restful winter break.
As we look towards the new year, I would like to share what is planned for the upcoming months of learning. We are excited to commence our ‘Water Unit’ in Science. To start with, we will allow some free exploration, which will be followed with a more focused study of Water Flow, Drops and Sink and Float. These first few weeks back from vacation we will be complementing our previous study of ‘Family’ as we discover the many things that make us special in our “All About Me” Theme. This theme will also allow us some time to learn more about our senses.
The last two weeks of December will be focused on our Winter Theme, in which we will do a winter tree observation, discover what animals do during the winter, have some fun with snow at our discovery table, read many books (one of which will be Jan Brett’s the Mitten) and continue growing in our story “writing” skills.
Just taking this little peak into the next month has been exciting for me and I am sure it will be for our Junior Kindergarteners as well.

Sinceramente,

Sra, Sandra Vasquez, maestra
Sra. Mercedes Escorihuela, maestra asistente

From April Silbert, Art Teacher

In art class the Junior Kindergarteners and Kindergarteners have completed units in collage and painting, with their self-portrait paintings on display outside the classrooms. The students are continually returning to drawing in their sketchbooks and discussing what they see and think about when looking at art reproductions. The students have recently finished their masks for the upcoming festival and are beginning a unit on clay next week. A new element in the Kindergarten art classes is the “Featured Artists”- where two students in each class share with their peers what they made that day and discuss their work.
