Dear Grade 3 Families,
Happy New Year! We are ready to start with new units in Math, Science, and Social Studies, and are very excited because we have planned several projects and activities to complement our curriculum. We will soon start our new math unit on area and perimeter, and by the end of February, we will be starting our favorite unit of the year- Multiplication and Division! In Science, we have begun studying rocks and minerals. Also, at the end of the semester we will invite you to come to a mini science fair, where the students will showcase all they have learned in this unit. The students will prepare a presentation about the characteristics and practical uses of a particular rock or mineral. The students will share this information and answer questions about their topic. While preparing for this project, the students will have the opportunity to complete a science investigation as well as develop their oral Spanish skills. In Social Studies, we will begin studying the time period surrounding the American Revolution. At the end of the year, the students will perform a play to share with you all that they learned. In Reader’s Workshop, we are learning about Tradicional Literature. We will learn about myths, legends, fairy tales, and fables. We invite you to share with your children any myths or legends from your cultural heritage. We are very happy with the progress and effort our students have shown in the first half of the year. They have developed into better students, classmates, and friends. We have seen growth in their independence, and we are very motivated by their enthusiasm to learn! As always, we thank you for your support and collaboration.
Sincerely, Julie and Soledad
